Rocky Hayes

July 3, 1966 — February 1, 2025

Mr. Rocky Hayes, 58, of Paris died Saturday, February 1, 2025, at his home.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 16th, beginning at noon until his service at 1:00 at Paris First United Methodist Church, located at 101 East Blythe Street with Rev. Joy Weathersbee officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be James Martin, Mitchell Taylor, Curtis Ray, Justin Chilcutt, Sam Cox, Greg Poteete, Nolan Poteete, Bobby Travillian, and David Taylor.

A graduate of Henry County HS, he worked at Plumley Manufacturing.  Later he worked in St. Louis, and in the coal mining industry in Kentucky.  Returning to Paris a few years ago, most recently Rocky did custodial work at the Department of Motor Vehicles, and The Reelfoot Family Medical Practice, as well as working as a cook at Fresh Market

With Rocky’s outgoing personality and his warm spirit, he formed friendships wherever he went.  Rocky cared about others and often went out of his way to care for anyone in need.  He enjoyed worshipping and fellowshipping with several congregations in Paris and became a member of Paris First United Methodist Church on Pentecost Sunday, May 19, 2024.  Often attending both the 8:30 and 10:30 worship services, Paris First UMC members looked forward to being greeted on Sunday mornings with Rocky’s “Hello Sista’ or Hello Brother!”  He was an active part of the Encompass Sunday school class, the Keenager’s fellowship group, and Wednesday evening Bible Studies. He also helped with the Second Harvest distribution of fresh produce among his neighbors   His presence and open-hearted praise of God will be greatly missed by all who worshipped with Rocky.  His many friends and family members will always cherish his memory.

In addition to his parents, Rocky was proceeded in death by his brothers: Steve Hayes, Kelvin Maurice Hayes, Reginald Hayes, Michael Burton and Mark Byars.

Siblings he leaves behind are Ricky Hayes, Pam Hayes, James (Jackie) VanDyke, Irvin Hayes, Rodney (Melissa) Burton and Anthony (Joyce) Burton; his children, Chynna Hayes, Antione Hayes, Diamond Hayes, Crystal Tharpe and Caitlin Smith; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be directed to the benevolence fund at Paris First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 25, Paris, Tennessee.
