Geneva Francis Hutcherson was born on April 29, 1930, in Whitlock, Tennessee, to the late Herbert and Willie B. Byars. She was educated in Henry County and graduated from Central High School. Known throughout the community for her exceptional cooking, Geneva was loved and respected by all who had the joy of knowing her.
At an early age, she confessed her love for Christ at Bird’s Creek Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member. In the early 1980s, she moved her membership to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where she continued to serve faithfully until her passing. At Mt. Zion, she served on the Mother’s Board and was honored as the oldest member of the congregation.
On July 1, 1951, Geneva was united in holy matrimony to Johnny Hutcherson, Sr. of Cottage Grove, TN. Together, they were blessed with five children and built a legacy of faith, family, and love.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Willie Byars; her beloved husband, Johnny Hutcherson, Sr.; two sons, Johnny W. Hutcherson, Jr. and John D. Wayne Hutcherson; two sisters, Joy Lee Riggs and Carrie Kennedy; and two great-great grandchildren.
Geneva leaves to cherish her memory her loving children: Peggy Ray, Patricia Hutcherson, Lesha (Tony) Tyler, and Lawayn Hutcherson, all of Paris, TN. She also leaves behind her grandchildren: Demetrius and Tracy Porter of Paris, TN; Shane and Stacy Porter of Gadsden, AL; Cyhia Hutcherson; Cheri Ray of Paris, TN; Leander Hutcherson of Chico, CA; Amber Hutcherson; Justin Tyler of Memphis, TN; Kim Hutcherson of Paris, TN; John and Taylor Tyler of Dexter Kentucky; and Michelle Pritchard of Paris, TN. She will also be lovingly remembered by her twenty-two great grandchildren, her great-great-grandchildren, two brothers, Herbert and Reverend L. Royal Byars of Antioch, TN, one sister, Carolyn Craig of Farmington, MI, and a host of extended family and friends.
Geneva’s life was one of devotion to God, to her family, and to her church. Her legacy of love, faith, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
